Liverpool and Arsenal are set to battle it out for the signature of Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay.
Both Premiership sides are looking to reinforce their flanks this summer, with Barcelona willing to listen to offers of £10m for the 25-year-old Dutch international, according to sources close to the club.
Afellay joined the Catalan Giants from PSV in January, but has failed to become a permanent fixture in the side, making 16 appearances including just seven starting lineups.
However the Dutchman has impressed when called upon, with Arsenal and Liverpool ready to match Barcelona’s valuation of the player.
The Anfield club were linked with Afellay prior to his move to the Nou Camp with Reds chief Damien Comolli a big fan of the wide-man.
Liverpool are looking to recruit two new wingers for next season, and have been heavily linked with Aston Villa’s Ashley Young, Wolves’ Matt Jarvis and Sevilla’s Jesus Navas.
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also said to be an admirer of Afellay, who can play as a centre attacking midfielder or on either wing.
With the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Andrey Arshavin all linked with a move away from The Emirates, the Gunners could be ready to bid for the versatile performer.
